The iDScore Oro Genital Mucosal lesions

The non-invasive differentiation of melanosis, lentigo maligna and melanoma of the oral and ano-genital mucosae localized rest a daily challenge for dermatologists. Dermoscopic algorithms were developed to date to provide a more standardized approach and support dermoscopists in the management of these melanocytic mucosal lesions (mMSLs). However, the addiction to data of the clinical history of the patient and of specific clinical features of the lesion could possibly increase the diagnostic accuracy of diagnostic-support checklists.

The first aim of the project (phase I) was to create an integrated dataset of clinical and dermosocpic pictures of difficult-to-diagnose MMLs, paired with patient and lesion’s data, or nearly 500 cases collected across Europe.

A second aim is to obtain the online evaluation of all those cases in a tele-dermoscopy setting (www.idscore.net) from participants across Europe, including novices and experts in dermoscopy, either residents or specialists. A complete set of dermoscopic pattern diagnosis will be obtained, along with management/case rating /confidence in diagnosis responses.

This testing phase will be open from 1st February to 30th June 2025.

A third aim (phase III), will consist of develop and validate an integrated clinico-dermosocpic scoring system-based algorithm dedicated to MSLs of oral and genital mucosae: this model will calculate a lesion’s risk score for melanoma and give corresponding management suggestion (follow-up/RCM/biopsy/excision). This methodology proved to very effective in melanocytic skin lesions of the body, face and acral sites, by selecting only the significant parameters for discriminating benign from malignant clinical conditions, deleting all redundant variables.
